    Situation

Demand for the crucial support provided by SHS has never been higher and, as a result, over the past two years SHS has nearly doubled in size. Each month we receive numerous requests from schools in new regions, as well as existing areas seeking our services. To address this growing need, a key objective of our five-year strategic plan, 2008-13, is to reach increasing numbers of young people, targeting more deprived areas and communities. We are now seeking five year funding to enable us to develop our services in our south region beyond our current provision across 11 London boroughs. We are aiming to expand services within existing boroughs, as well as rolling out into new areas both within and outside London where we have current interest such as the Thames Gateway, Kent and Sussex. These funds will provide the essential seed-corn funding needed to get new services off the ground and to allow schools time to embed the service in their annual budget to ensure sustainability. There is a full five year business plan, which compliments our 2008-13 strategic plan and this is available upon request.
