    Situation

What will be funded? For ten years, Havering Theatre Trust has been providing additional accessible performances for those in need of support via BSL signed and audio-described services. The Trust also offers a hearing aid loop system which can be accessed for all performances it presents. The unprecedented success of the Trust’s other Access services has led the Trust to begin the development phase of widening the programme to include captioned performances for those who are have a hearing impairment but are unable to make use of the BSL sign language interpreted performances. During the last year the Trust has committed to developing its access services and has run a pilot captioned performance scheme. The pilot of this scheme has allowed the Trust to get feedback from users, which on the whole has been very positive. In order to develop and maintain these services the Trust is in urgent need of replacing its current equipment for Audio Described performances and hearing aid loop system, both of which we believe have been installed in the Theatre for well over ten years and are coming to the end of their lives. For the Trust to develop the Captioning part of its offering it also now requires funding to be able to purchase the equipment to offer this service regularly. The Trust seeks £20,000 to support the programme and purchase equipment for the both Audio Described performances, hearing aid users and Captioned performances. The Trust also requires a further £15,000 (£5,000 a year) for the next three years. This will enable the captioned performance service to become firmly established amongst audience members, support its sustainability in the long-term and help market the service to a wider audience. This development is central to the present application. The project therefore breaks down as follows: In Year One the funding would be invested in the purchase of the equipment to enable us to provide the service. It will also include The funding would also contribute to the overall project management and marketing the service. In Years Two and Three other costs incurred would include project management, staffing, training and development, and marketing expenses. In Year Three an evaluation for the project is also budgeted for.
