A staff member to recruit, induct and train volunteers to be volunteer advocates on a minor basis, visiting people in their own homes to provide short term support to resolve a difficult issue. Although a very small charity we are seeing an increase in people coming to us to deal with issues that take about 2-6 hours to resolve over 1 or more days. These are generally issues that people do not feel they can resolve by themselves. Often the problem is hidden from the family or the family do not wish to become involved. Very often the person is housebound and more than likely over 70. As we are only two staff we rely heavily on a volunteer workforce to help us carry out our projects. This project would help us to recruit and develop more volunteers making the organisation stronger and increasing capacity. It would be our aim to help support those older people resolve these matters quickly before they become pressing matters or before they develop into debt problems - in the case of energy companies. The volunteer support would help older people sort out any financial difficulties that had occurred and ensure systems were set up to make it easier for the older person to keep track of their finances . We would be looking to employ a part time advocate training/project manager for 1-2 years and are looking for revenue costs to support the project for the same length of time. Our budget costs would be 2 year's salary plus oncosts, = approx £40,000, plus the usual revenue costs = approx £20,000 and costs for volunteer training and support = £15,000.
