Situation

In a classroom teachers sit in front of a class talking to children & waiting for a response. Sound levels decline over short distances however, creating difficult listening environments. Classrooms are also noisy. Hearing aids & cochlear implants amplify all sounds including unwanted background noise. This makes it difficult for a deaf child to “tune in” & they can miss/ misunderstand what is said. As a result they find it difficult to participate in learning or to develop key language skills

Solution

We will install a digital system to help teachers work with deaf children. It will provide clear sound, avoiding “clashes” between channels used by children wearing hearing aids or cochlear implants. The system improves the “signal to noise ratio” of children in the classroom, heightening awareness of the teacher’s voice against background noise & allowing teachers to move around, communicating with much improved clarity of sound so children hear what is said & learn to develop their speech
