This project will enable us to provide 600 - 700 places on a series of music, art and circus skills based workshops for children and young people at our annual festival. The project will also provide equipment to enable us to run workshops and other activities for children at future events thereby ensuring a legacy that will continue for many years.

    Situation

We have a large and growing audience attending the festival each year and there is particular growth from families and children. The proposed workshops will provide a positive and stimulating way for the children and young people to play an active part in the festival activities. Regrettably the National Performance Indicators show that Lincolnshire is in the bottom 10% of areas in the UK for levels of participation by children and young people in positive activities. The numerous health and developmental benefits of participating in the arts are well documented and we believe the music and arts workshops will help the children to develop and learn new skills in a variety of positive arts disciplines and embedding the value of participating and motivating them to want to do more from an early age. Opportunities for children and young people to participate in the arts outside of a classroom setting are often limited, and this is particularly so in a rural area such as Stamford and its surrounding towns and villages. By including workshops for participating and learning at the Festival we can show how everyone can take part in the arts, no matter what their age or existing level of skill or experience. The festival itself provides numerous positive images of the way in which music and other art forms can be used to bring people together, to socialise and help to entertain people; in other words to help make people happy!
