    Situation

In 2007, the National Audit Office estimated that every year up to £800 million worth of UK prescribed drugs are not used. This is a shocking waste of a valuable and at times literally life-saving resource. We take that resource and try to assist the poor and sick in sub-Saharan Africa with their basic medical needs. The majority of the people we help are poor subsistence farmers and families who earn less than $1 per day. They cannot afford basic medicines which we provide free of charge.

    Solution

Inter Care responds to specific requests from medical units in a sustained and regular manner. Inter Care attempts to supplement the supplies of the pharmacies, not to be their only source of medicines. Experience has shown that the quickest and most secure method of sending these medicines out to Africa is by parcel post. The medicines that Inter Care send, contribute to the health care of around 8,500,000 people which is the combined catchment of all its units.
