Situation
The Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow was built more than 30 years ago, and it’s showing its age. Nursing standards are excellent but the dated facilities are affecting our patients’ comfort, privacy and the standard of care that they receive. There are no en-suite bathrooms, only six single rooms, and not enough accommodation for visiting families. We have looked into refurbishment, but the layout limits expansion and the cost for all the necessary improvements is prohibitively expensive. On top of this, we would need to move patients for at least 18 months, if not suspend services altogether. Our Big Build Appeal aims to raise £16 million to build a modern replacement hospice that will offer state-of-the-art care. It will allow us to continue to deliver the highest standards of care in relaxed and comfortable surroundings. Most of our patients will be cared for in single rooms with guest beds for family members, ensuite facilities and access to outside areas - all the things that our patients and their families need. "Our research has shown how important it is for our patients to be cared for in the best possible environment. We are extremely excited about the opportunities that the new hospice will provide and the crucial benefits it will bring to patients and their families". Jim Adam, Medical Director, Marie Curie Hospice Glasgow.
