    Situation

Children in Britain have never been so ignorant about our rural environment and heritage. and more than 20% of British children have bever been to the countryside. We want help all children, but specifically those if primary age, reconnect with the countryside by teaching them about the countryside and everything that goes on there. There is a clear demand for this type of work with almost all teachers, in a TCAF-commissioned survey, considering countryside learning as important for children.

    Solution

While other charities have concentrated on getting small groups of children out into the countryside, we believe that our approach is unique in trying to access the maximum audience for the minimum cost. The link to the programme was sent to 23,000 primary schools in England and Wales in 2008. It has proved popular with children and teachers alike and is being used in 10% of those schools but we now need to promote this successful resource those schools which have not yet taken it up.
