We need to replace all Air Ambulance and support vehicle patient monitoring equipment to meet the growing demands on the vital life saving service we provide. Such equipment will improve the quality of service we offer and enhance the prospects of injured and traumatised patients surviving.

    Situation

We are the only service outside of London to carry a doctor on board and have the ability to treat patients at the scene of the trauma and whilst in flight. Many air ambulance operations simply expedite patients to the nearest hospital, our speed and ability means that we can treat and get patients to the best available specialist unit within the “golden hour” needed for survival. This unique quality of provision saves lives and delivers casualties to hospitals with minimum distress a greatly enhanced opportunity of a positive outcome. Currently this service costs £1.6 million per annum, or around £4,400 per day. We are called into action, on average, 115 times a month and attend emergencies across the region, saving lives and preventing serious long-term injury, or disability, to thousands of people. Because of our superior abilities our services were even called into action to attend the dreadful terrorist atrocities in London in the summer of 2005 and during the disastrous flooding last Summer to deliver 250 kgs of emergency medical supplies to Upton-on-Severn. Recently the WNAA also attended the tragic fire at Atherstone on Stour. In order to maintain the highest level of service provision we need to acquire four patient monitors, these will be employed in flight and are of intensive care quality. Also four defibrillators for heart attack victims are also needed. This vital kit will take air operations into thr next generation. the total funds required is c£ 100,000.
