    Situation

The moment a parent receives the news that their child is disabled they are affected both emotionally and financially putting them at considerable risk of depression and psychological problems. The befrienders will offer one to one support in the parents own home. They are trained to offer this support without any judgement or agenda. As the befrienders are parents themselves they can remember thow they wanted to talk to someone who could understand what they were feeling at the time.

    Solution

Face2Face befrienders will help equip parents with the skills they need to improve their own mental and emotional health and help them to overcome adversity at a very vulnerable period in their lives. We will support parents to help them break down social isolation and increase their confidence. This confidence means that parents are able to accept how they are feeling and learn that they can cope with their situation, thus improving the wellbeing of the whole family.
