    Situation

Advocacy - young people very often need the support of an advocate to enable them to have a voice to give them a say for their future. We establish relationships with young people that enable them to talk to us about things they wish to change, and estatblish how they can have their voice heard, especially when there is a possibility of a power in-balance i.e. with statutory reviews. We enable young people to understand the process and how they can be heard by reading through their reports with them, we help them to understand how to voice their queries in an appropriate way and we offer to attend meetings with the young person to help them voice their questions. If they cannot gain a response within their review, we find out who can answer their questions in appropriate timescales and this enables young people to manage some aspects of their behaviour. Young people are offered an arena where confidential (unless there is a child protection issue) matters and concerns can be discussed. Weekly drop-ins are provided to looked-after children in local care, local schools, residential units, foster homes and any other children in need. Counselling - seperate to the role of an advocate, one to one counselling carried out by qualified counsellors will enable young people to manage and face issues that they are faced with. By dealing with issues at an early age we hope to reduce the amount of people suffering related issues such as eating disorders, self harm and general poor mental health in adulthood.
