Situation

We offer a range of activities in which every child can participate, to enable each one to achieve their full potential and explore their horizons while living, working and playing together. Many of the children who attend are disabled by conditions such as autism, ADHT, sensory impairment, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida or resulting from an accident. The inclusion of non-disabled children as well is an integral part of Phab’s philosophy. Tuition is given by qualified instructors with specialised experience of working with disabled young people, and the projects are supported by a team of enthusiastic and highly trained volunteers, many of whom return year after year. The holidays will be promoted through all Phab clubs and through social services departments and other professionals who work with disabled or disadvantaged children. Many parents have stated that their child’s confidence has increased and that it has challenged limitations placed on the children by their own attitudes, their environment and the misconception of others. We get a huge amount of children applying each year and this is attributed to the professional way in which the Integrated Living Experiences are run, and the uniqueness of these projects. The following are some of the comments we have received: • “…It’s done wonders for his confidence especially as he’s never really been away from home for more than one night… Thank you for making it a fantastic holiday for him”. – Parent (Keswick) • “…She had a wonderful time and cannot stop telling everyone about it. Everyone was so kind and I can see a big difference in her independence skills. She would love to go again”. – Parent (Kendal) • “As soon as we arrived I felt nervous because it is very different for my normal life. I found everyone very welcoming and soon my nerves disappeared. The activities were very physically challenging but since they had the right equipment and I had the nerve – I did them all! On normal school camps I wouldn’t be able to do these things because of my disability. I really enjoyed all of the activities. – Child aged 11 (Exmoor)
