10 years on from the May 1998 world-changing 70,000-strong human chain encircling the G8 in Birmingham, Jubilee Debt Campaign is inviting people of belief in justice, gathered from across the ethical, religious and ethnic communities in Birmingham and the UK, to a major event on Sunday 18 May 2008 at 2.30pm in the International Convention Centre to celebrate what the campaign has achieved and demand further action on debt. A fast-moving presentation will inform, inspire and energise people to pick up the baton and take new steps on the journey to justice.

    Situation

    In May 1998 70,000 people formed a human chain in Birmingham to demand that the G8 drop the debt. Ten years later, much has been done; many lives have been transformed. But the debt crisis is not over. Injustice, exploitation and imbalances of power still remain: debt cancellation is still needed, as is a radical new process for dealing with debt. On Sunday 18 May. It 2008 Jubilee Debt Campaign is inviting people of belief in justice, gathered from across the ethical, religious and ethnic communities in Birmingham and the UK, to a major event at 2.30pm in the International Convention Centre will celebrate what the campaign has achieved and demand further action on debt. A fast-moving presentation will inform, inspire and energise people to pick up the baton and take new steps on the journey to justice. There will be a range of related events and activities in Birmingham before and after the main event on 18th May; these will include a university conference and assemblies at hundreds of primary schools. we will produce a DVD for use by schools and community groups and a report for use by the media, academics, members of the government and campaigners.
