We plan to attend countryside and health-related events/ conferences and seminars and give talks using Powerpoint presentations to raise awareness of access issues in the countryside for disabled people. Our aim is to inform & educate land managers, rangers and other service providers as well as other disability organisations with a view to having any unnecessary barriers in the countryside removed. The entire project budget is around £3500.

    Situation

Forth & Tay Disabled Ramblers aims to improve quality of life, promote inclusion, encourage independence and improve health and well-being through recreational and social activities by enabling people with disabilities to access the outdoors in a barrier-free environment. Our project entails purchasing a laptop plus additional software and a projector (including a replacement bulb) to enable us to embark on an awareness- raising and marketing campaign. This will be done by giving talks and presentations to rangers, land managers and service providers to educate and inform them on issues regarding access and leisure provision for disabled people. At present we borrow this equipment from our local Council for Voluntary Services, which entails two round trips of 25 miles to borrow and return the equipment, which is time-consuming and inconvenient. The laser printer will allow us to produce our own information leaflets and amend these as necessary without incurring expensive reprint costs. .Display boards will be used to give a visual account of our activities at the many events that we attend throughout the year to promote the work of the group. A marketing campaign will allow us to recruit new members and highlight opportunities for leisure for disabled people. A wheeled carrying case will facilitate transportation of the equipment to the venue. The memory sticks simplify the sharing of photographs/ presentations amongst committee members. Volunteer travel expenses to talks and other events have been included in the application.
