We recognise the benefit of contact with the natural environment. Its positive impact on both our mental and physical health is potentially one of its greatest attributes. WCS manages and maintains Kilkhampton Common and the project aim is to maintain funds to allow the land to benefit the community

Situation

WCS managed Kilkhampton Common for the benefit of the local community and requires donations and funding to ensure it can be managed appropriately for the benefit of the local habitat and those who visit and make use of the Common. Without funds, WCS will be unable to manage the Common as effectively and would be detrimental to the charity aims and objectives. This eventually could result in the loss of the Common.

Solution

By maintaining Kilkhampton Common, the local community can benefit from reconnecting with local nature. WCS has managed the Common for the past 3 years and in that time it has made improvements including new wildlife ponds, additional permissive pathways, introduced conservational grazing and released harvest mice. WCS want to continue the management of the Common with the aim of continually improving the environmental value of the land and make it available for the local community.
