In taking the delivery of a new steam locomotive in early December 2014, history was made at the Swindon & Cricklade Railway, as the Railway has never owned it's own steam locomotive, since being formed in 1978.
It ran from 2:44 PM, 11 August 2015 to 6:25 PM, 23 August 2015

The Railway now owns it's own steam locomotive, but the hefty price tag of 'Spartan' means that it will take some paying off, which is where this appeal comes in. The Railway also needs to consider it's ten year overhaul which is due in three years time and this will also cost a vast sum of money.
The Maroon coloured locomotive, Tkh 0-6-0 tank locomotive 3135 'Spartan', was built in 1953 by the Fablok Company in the town of Chzanov, in Poland. It came to the S&CR after a longh spell at the Spa Valley Railway in Kent. The Locomotive has about three years left on it's boiler certificate and will fulfil the Railway's need for an operational Steam locomotive.
