Situation

High rates of offending, marginalisation, disaffection amongst BME(65% of Liverpool’s non white ethnic groups are in the most deprived 10%) and broader working class adults; disengagement, negative attitudes, low aspirations, unemployment, drug and alcohol misuse and mental illness. In Liverpool 19.5 % (54,000) of the working age population have no qualifications (ONS 2008).

Solution

Delivering 8x Da Hungry Must Be Fed accredited 7 week courses engaging offenders and disaffected adults. Courses combine healthy food preparation with hospitality skills, story-telling, social skills, all drawing on wisdom traditions of diverse cultural communities. Learners inspired and skilled to transform their attitudes, aspirations, reintegrate into their community, take up education, employment opportunities, stop offending, pursue healthy lifestyles and be positive community members.
