    Situation

Deaf children face problems in intergrating in mainstreem education. This can lead to a feeling of isolation and a lack of confidence. This is despite the statutory help available. Statistics shows a gap in attainment between Deaf children and their hearing collegues. This lack of attainment

    Solution

Our officer works on a one to one basis with children giving support and listening to any concerns the child may have. He can also offer further education advice and accompany the child to national specialist further education facilities. They can assist teachers with interpretation prior to any exams being undertaken by the child. They offer deaf awareness training to teachers and other pupils, this can be carried out at lunchtimes, playtimes or after school and teaches basic sign language
