    Situation

Reason: There are 50 people with PSP or CBD attending a specialist clinic. A Senior Consultant Neurologist who oversees the clinic has approached The PSP Association for additional support from our PSP Nurse Specialist. End goal: Improved care and support given to people with PSP or CBD attending this clinic. A new local Care & Support Group Meeting for carers of people with PSP where PSP Nurse Specialist and PSP Development Officer are in attendance. These meetings are really important as many carers feel lonely, isolated and exhausted looking after their loved ones, whereas local Care & Support Meetings provide opportunities to meet other carers, to gain confidence and emotional strength knowing that there are people in their locality going through a very similar experience and receive additional expert support and advice. Cost: The cost of a nurse to attend a clinic is on average £200-£300 (salary, travel and subsistence) per clinic. Twelve clinics pa = £2,400-£3,600 It costs an average of £500 for one Group Support Meeting, we hold three meetings per year in the same locality that’s £1,500 (administration, travel time, attendance of a PSP Nurse Specialist and a PSP Development Officer).
