We believe the disciplines and strategies involved in the successful playing of rugby football to be a perfect metaphor for successfully playing the game of life. This project combines powerful personal development and life skills coaching delivered by Youth at Risk with rugby skills and fitness training delivered by Saracens RFC.

    Situation

Field of Dreams is a structured, integrated and innovative intervention, targeted at some of the most vulnerable and "hard to reach" young people of Luton. Local evidence shows that they will have disengaged with learning, be involved with anti-social behaviour and gang culture and be at risk of entering - or already within - the youth justice system. Without change, the future lives of these young people will be ones of underachievement and unfulfilled potential, leading to long-term unemployment and possibly more serious criminal activity. In particular Field of Dreams focuses on young people of African Caribbean and Asian heritage. In addition to the above issues there is distinct tension between these two communities, on occasion giving rise to racially-motivated violence. This project also sets out to improve relationships between them through straightening out misconceptions, creating understanding and getting the two groups to work together as a team
