The Kings Theatre

Back Stage Wheelchair Access

To provide a wheelchair lift backstage to give those who are mobility impaired an opportunity to perform on the stage of this wonderful Grade 2* listed Edwardian Theatre. This is a relatively simple project that will not involve any structural work and can be easily brought into use quickly and easily.

Our theatre was built in 1907, at a time of little consideration for those who were not fully mobile. To gain access to the backstage area there is a short run of steps from the stage door to the stage area. Modern lifting equipment can readily be purchased that will open this area up for the mobility impaired. Having this extra facility will broaden the availability for more members of the community to experience performing at or just experiencing this historic theatre. This specialist piece of equipment will cost up to £10,000 to purchase.
