Situation

The Undergraduate ParliaMentors programme (UP) invites politicians to act as mentors for university students studying in the political field.The option is offered to each group to link with a non faith-based NGO or think tank in order to further promote the action aspect of the programme. Students are in their second year of a bachelor’s degree in politics or a related subject, and are offered the chance to enter the UP programme through the relevant university department.

Solution

1. Provide politics students with advice and support appropriate for a career in politics. 2. Break down stereotypes and facilitate dialogue and joint working between young people of the three faith communities. 3. Give parliamentarians the chance to engage in depth with young people from faith communities. 4. Establish an alumni network of students of various faiths studying in the political field. 6. Give future leaders the opportunity to understand their role in the political process.
