Isabel Hospice would like to implement a Youth Volunteering Initiative in order to get more young people involved in volunteering within our local community. Not only would this project bring new skills, strengths and enthusiasm to the organisation, it would also help to break down misconceptions about the work of the Hospice movement and help to raise understanding and awareness in younger people, so increasing future sustainability.

    Situation

In order to achieve this we would need to recruit a Youth Volunteering Co-ordinator who would liaise with local educational establishments and youth groups to recruit and manage young volunteers. This project would not only benefit the organisation, but would also provide young people with new skills and experiences as well as enabling them to contribute to their local community. Young people would have opportunities to work in a variety of areas throughout the organisation, such as patient care, finance, retailing, I.T. and fundraising. They would be mentored to ensure that the experience was beneficial both to themselves and the Hospice. We are seeking 3 year funding for this project in order to allow it time to develop and make a real impact, after which time it should become self-sustaining.
