The aim of this project is to continue and expand our programme of means-tested bursaries, so that we can provide even more girls from low-income families with a challenging and fully-rounded education of the highest calibre.

    Situation

The Maynard’s high academic standards have ensured its standing as one of the country’s leading day schools, but the real key to the Maynard’s success is the warmly supportive community that creates a culture of confident individual learning and a spirit of enquiry. The School aims to enable each girl to discover where her talents lie and to enjoy her own success and that of her fellow pupils, whether in terms of academic learning ability, ability in a specific curricular or extra-curricular area, or exceptional attributes which benefit the whole school community. The Maynard does its utmost to offer this opportunity for a challenging and fully-rounded education of the highest calibre to all girls, regardless of family income. The School has a long history of providing means-tested fees assistance, having supported a large number of girls via the Direct Grant and Government Assisted Places schemes. Even after the cessation of these schemes, our Governors continue to award annual means-tested bursaries to assist girls who would not otherwise be able to join the Maynard. We are committed to the continuation and expansion of our bursary programme, but the Maynard is not well-endowed. It is for this reason that we have launched the 350th Anniversary Appeal: a giving programme devised specifically to provide support for girls who would benefit from a Maynard education but whose families are unable to afford full fees.
