    Situation

The group have produced one performance of Desh Pardesh for family and friends but now wish to produce it for the public on a major stage. This is an unusual and innovative project for a group of normally shy and retiring ladies who have transformed their life experiences into a vivid and witty drama. The ladies had no previous acting experience but working with Forest Forge and playing a variety of parts has given them the confidence for this new co-production with the Nuffield Theatre. They also aim to produce a DVD recording of Desh Pardesh and its history and background. This would be a resource available for similar community groups wishing to develop arts and drama projects. They are based at the Suhana Asian Elders Centre run by Age Concern Southampton which is promoting Desh Pardesh as an inspiring project demonstrating Positive Ageing. It addresses issues of ageing, immigration and local history in a positive way and aims to be a creative contribution to community understanding. We are seeking £6,000 for the net costs of the production and DVD
