We already do some provision of furniture and household appliances by sourcing them from people who no longer have a need for them and handing them on to some of the disadvantaged families and individuals we work with. We are looking to purchase a van and fund its upkeep for several years to allow us to continue and expand this work.

    Situation

Karis Neighbour Scheme has a history of sourcing furniture and essential household appliances like beds, washing machines and cookers, from people who no longer need them and passing them on to families and individuals we are working with who are in need of such items. We find there is a great need for this kind of provision in the areas we work in. It is also a great way of recycling unwanted items that are still of use to someone who may have very little. We are currently limited by a lack of transport and find it difficult to move larger items, for which there is often the most demand, and so are looking to purchase a van to allow us to more readily provide this service. At the moment we are looking for about £25,000 to cover the purchase of the van and the initial costs of insurance and tax as well as some of the running costs for the first year.
