Venture Trust’s ‘Making Tracks’ programmes work with some of Scotland’s most vulnerable young people; those who are at risk of becoming involved in gang culture or offending behaviours, or who have already been in custody for less serious offences. We take a proactive, preventative approach to offending, whilst also working with young people already involved with the prison service.

    Situation

To support young people to reduce their offending, Making Tracks programmes aim to increase participants’ self-confidence, employability, stability, bonds with friends, family and the wider community and their ability to make use of services and opportunities within their communities. These ‘Making Tracks’ programmes are characterised by our unique ‘Community Mobile Training Centres’ or ‘mobile units’. These are specially built vehicles and trailers, used in participants’ own communities (where they can be used to connect young people to the opportunities in their area) before heading into the wilderness. Here, the contrast between participants’ everyday urban environments and the outstanding natural wilderness of rural Scotland gives young people a chance to reassess their personal situations and make positive changes to their lives, behaviour, and future opportunities.
