The policy of the Nature in Art Education service is to encourage young people to learn through practical activities and new experiences, and to have fun. We have an excellent schools programme but have found that some schools are unable to visit us due to travel costs or they are limited by the number of children they are bringing. We are aiming to raise enough money to be able to subsidise, or even pay for, the travel or attendance costs for schools in need.

    Situation

Gloucester has two inner city wards within the worst 10% most deprived in England. Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean have similar areas. We also have 12 special schools in the county. It is often those schools who can not afford to visit who would benefit most from coming to Nature in Art. Therefore, we would like to help fund their visit to ensure that those schools who do not have funds are still able to take advantage of our programme. £5 will pay for one child to travel to Nature in Art. £3,000 would allow us to assist approximately 25 classes during a year. Our schools programme caters for a wide variety of educational needs enabling children to reach their curriculum targets. Our sculpture garden is often used to explore the natural habitat of local wildlife and the collection is used to discuss the different forms and genres of art.
