To provide two specially-adapted computers, with access to the internet, for the 20 residents of our care-home, who all have physical disabilities. The computers will allow our residents to do online shopping, access social networking sites and research job and voluntary opportunities in the region.

    Situation

Residents wish to be more self-sufficient and independent. They do not want to rely on members of staff to perform daily tasks for them. Residents can often feel isolated from the outside community, especially if they become bed-ridden or are unable to go outside for some time. Disabled adults are not always given access to job or voluntary opportunities or cannot always find out about them Many of our residents are unable to use conventional computers, due to their individual disability.

    Solution

Having access to specially-adapted computers, which have touch-screen monitors and large, bright keys, will enable each and every one of our residents to use the computers. They will be able to access social networking sites, which will help them to feel more socially included and less isolated. They will be able to do online shopping, making them less reliant on members of staff and more independent. They will also be able to research job and voluntary opportunities online.
