To build substantial mud huts with concrete floors for the vulnerable widows, orphans and elderly who are living in extreme poverty, in rural communities of Zambia. Each home costs only £400 of which 100% will go directly into the project. Local labour and materials are used giving a home to a family.

Situation
The Butterfly Tree Housing project provides homes for vulnerable people living in rural communities of Zambia, which have been decimated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.Too many women, children and the elderly are living in deplorable conditions, struggling on less than 50p a day. Widows with children have to move in with other families pushing them further below the poverty line; while the elderly cannot even afford the £10 it costs to rethatch a roof, leaving their homes exposed to the elements and deadly snakes. This project not only offers a sturdy new home for a needy family, but gives local builders and tradesmen employment and a sustainable income.
