Malaria kills over 1 million people a year, of which 75% are children under the age of five in Africa. Infant mortality can be reduced considerabley by the use of insecticide-treated nets and the availabitlity of early testing for malaria. A mosquito net costs as little as £5 and a testing kit only £1 No money from any donations will be deducted for personal or administration fees; 100% will go directly into the project.

Situation

To provide rural health centres in the villages of the Southern Province of Zambia with sufficient mosquito nets, which provide personal protection to the individual and act as baited traps for mosquitos. The government contributions are limited and there is insufficient supplies in remote areas. By providing adequate malaria testing kits, mosquito nets and educational workshops, to these rural health centres in poor communities many lives, especially young children, can be saved. Malaria education is taught in outreach villages. In areas where we have distributed nets, no new cases have been reported in 2010. The Butterfly Tree has launched a charity song, 'Change for the Better', to promote global awareness of malaria.
