People affected by the floods in Pakistan need advice and answers to their questions. Our lifeline radio programme for Pakistan gives people the information they need, in their local language. 800 phone calls to our lifeline radio line in its first five hours, tells us it is meeting a vital need.

Situation
An estimated 1700 people have died and 20 million people have been affected by Pakistan's worst floods in 80 years. Continuous monsoon rains have led to millions being displaced. The affected communities, many of which are living in remote rural areas with little or no access to information, are desperate for news such as where to get food or how to avoid life threatening diseases. This is what Lifeline aims to provide.
Solution
The BBC World Service Trust’s lifeline radio programme for Pakistan reaches between approximately 25 million people giving them humanitarian information they want and need. We are part of the Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities group of humanitarian organisations which exists to serve affected populations by coordinating lifesaving information to them. We also coordinate closely with the UN and other agencies in the field.
