Cobalt’s state of the art technology provides a unique imaging and diagnosis service which is now being used to scan young and ‘at risk’ patients who are not suitable for screening under the service provided by the Gloucestershire Breast Screening Service.

Situation
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and the third most common cause of cancer deaths. Early diagnosis is a key factor for successful treatment and the Gloucestershire Breast Centre, one of the best in the country, provides diagnostic and symptomatic screening for patients throughout Gloucestershire. However, as it does not have MRI facilities it is unable to effectively screen young and ‘at risk’ patients for whom mammography is not appropriate.
Solution
The Cheltenham Imaging Centre, run by Cobalt, seeks to provide state-of-the-art MRI breast scans for the 300 women across the Three Counties who are young and ‘at risk’. The service will ensure that these women are scanned earlier, using the best technology, alleviating stress and anxiety for the majority and providing early accurate diagnosis for the unfortunate few.
