The Cof√°n settlement of Cof√°n Dureno has to date resisted the incursion of oil companies onto their territories. But the companies are persistent and have convinced some members of the community to allow them to restart seismic surveys as a prelude to full oil exploration project on their territory.

Situation
We have received an urgent appeal for solidarity from Fidel Aguinda from AJONCE - the Cofán Youth Organisation in Ecuador, asking for support of USD$1,580 to carry out a series of activities to counter the oil company, including a gathering of Cofán shamans from Colombia and Ecuador to hold a Yagé ceremony in order to protect their territory and nation; awareness-raising and community campaigns.
Solution
AJONCE plan a series of strategies to defend their community from the imminent threat of oil, among these are: a gathering of Cof√°n sages; AJONCE public statement denouncing the oil company for harassment of the community; developing diptychs in A'ingae language to explain the impacts of the seismic exploration; developing legal strategy and Socio Bosque strategy.
