We urgently need to replace the glass roof in the reception area of the children’s therapy centre before it becomes a hazard. Children and their families use the area constantly, but it now leaks in a number of places when it rains.

    Situation

We urgently need to replace the glass roof and carpet in the reception area of the children’s therapy centre. The reception is the first point of contact for families visiting for treatment. It acts as a waiting area and includes a soft play area where children and their siblings can keep themselves occupied. Therapists also use the space to encourage children to try out new mobility aids. The reinforced glass roof was put up when the charity moved into building 18 years ago but over the last five years it has started to leak. We have carried out remedial work (and put buckets out!), but the reception seating and carpet have at times become soaked and is now stained. Each time it rains the leaks get worse and this is making the area unpleasant for families. We have also been advised that if the glass panes become loose they pose a potential danger of falling. After receiving advice from a number of roofing specialists, we have identified a company that can complete the work for just under £50,000. The replacement carpet will cost an additional £2,000
