    Situation

In Uganda statistics indicate that there are between 200-300 child sacrifice cases every year, but local campaigners say the true figure is much higher as many cases go unreported. Poorest children are at most risk. In certain areas a culture of fear has developed; hampering children’s development and stopping some attending school. Survivors have little psychosocial support and often drop out of school or have very low academic success.

    Solution

Working with our local partner, ANPPCAN, the project will support children to better equip themselves against the risks of becoming a victim, it will raise awareness among communities of the myths and alternatives to sacrifice and enable them to report abuse more quickly, work with key stakeholders including police and doctors to better support victims and prosecute cases, and we will lobby the government to take more decisive action on this devastating practice.
