    Situation

Aim To train the 14 members of the ‘Shout’ Project, to an accredited level, to be peer educators on:  Down’s Syndrome,  Disability awareness,  Self-esteem,  Personal development and  Communication skills. For the 14 peer educators to deliver the above programme to other young people with Down's Syndrome. A Peer Education Approach will recognise our young people's achievements to date and furthermore it is designed to encourage young people to take a more active role in challenging the myths and stereotypes about Down's Syndrome and learning disability in general. Outcomes The 14 peer educators will have increased skills, confidence and self-esteem, as will the young people who they are delivering the training programme to. The end result being that people who have the condition Down's Syndrome will be more knowledgable about their condition and have increased confidence and self-esteem which will enable them to be more empowered to:  Take greater control of the decisions which affect their lives  Express their needs and opinions  Access resources and information appropriate to them
