Situation
The new proposed Institute will coordinate cancer research activity in Personalized Medicine and initiatives within Oxford for enabling and supporting basic/translational research in medical oncology, population studies and radiation and surgical oncology, facilitating integrated programs in both basic and clinical science and, through its research, improving cancer patient survival/quality of life through targeted treatment.
Solution
To benefit maximally from this research, the centre will create as many opportunities as possible for interaction between clinical and non-clinical researchers. The centre will ensure that its three main research components – basic sciences, translational medicine and clinical and population-based research - allow us to close the loop and drive discovery from the bench to the bedside.
