    Situation

volunteering at one of JusB’s nine youth projects. A young person remains a youth volunteer until they reach their 19th Birthday after which they will enter into the adult volunteering project. The purpose of the role is to build relationships with the young people who access JusB’s projects and help them engage with the equipment and activities on offer. We manage a team of five youth volunteers at any one time, who are expected to volunteer for at least one session every four weeks, if a youth volunteer wishes to volunteer more frequently they may do so subject to the youth work manager’s approval. Our youth volunteers are recruited as and when we identify young people (aged 16-18 yrs) as potential youth volunteers, the recruitment process is an on-going process throughout the year. The youth work manager reviews the youth volunteers in June every year and identifies who will be back in September, who is leaving, and who is ready both in age and maturity to move onto an Adult volunteer role. Induction, Training and Supervision: Initially a young person is invited to visit the project at which they have been identified as being a youth volunteer. If they wish to become a youth volunteer then they will need to complete an enhanced CRB check and attend a full day’s training which will include building relationships, child protection, behaviour management and volunteering responsibilities. The youth volunteers are offered group supervision every six weeks as well as both e-mail and telephone support by the youth worker if needed after a session. “By working as a youth volunteer you get to have proper conversations with young people and get to know them.”
