    Situation

An adult volunteer is a person aged 19 or over who has committed themselves to acting as a volunteer for JusB on a regular basis. Some volunteers offer time on a weekly basis, others on a monthly basis. Sometimes we have volunteers who come and help us with a specific task while they are between jobs, or while waiting to go to university. A volunteer has many choices open to them, some volunteers may wish to help us at one of our nine projects, becoming actively involved with young people, others may feel their talents are more suited to behind the scenes work such as helping with our administration, regular DIY maintenance, the local fundraising committee or IT support. JusB would be a very different Charity indeed without our volunteers as they bring so much more than just their time to our young people, and our organisation. We have over 60 local volunteers helping us, demonstrating the tremendous local support we receive for the work we do, helping disadvantaged young people. Volunteers working at the projects attend a briefing before the project commences, discussing the specific aims and objectives that particular session, the topic of any workshop that may running during the session is also discussed and specific roles are allocated by the youth workers. A de-briefing meeting is held when the session has finished, any issues raised are fully discussed whether on a practical, or child protection, level. We are also fortunate that so many of our volunteers are willing to volunteer for position of greater responsibility, working as Trustees, Treasurer, Company Secretary, and being responsible for various committees such as our finance working group, business planning working group and HR working group. We are also enjoy the benefit of an active pastoral team offering support to our staff and volunteers. Induction, Training and Supervision: Initially the potential volunteer will be interviewed by our volunteer co-ordinator and an enhanced CRB check, at no cost to them, will be conducted. After satisfactory CRB return they will be invited to visit either the project or at which they have been identified as being a volunteer, or the member of staff they will be helping on and administrative basis. The project volunteers then attend a full day’s training which will include building relationships, child protection, behaviour management and volunteering responsibilities.
