The Orphanage housing 73 children is threatened with closure! You can prevent that! The Indian authorities are insisting on urgent works being done at the Orphanage to comply with Health and Safety regulations. Their visit in mid-October 2007 insisted on a 20-day timescale (!), although a more reasonable extension has been requested. There is no money available - without this work, the home may have to close.

    Situation

The orphanage run by Love & Care 333 India at Vellankanni, southern India, houses victims of the 2004 Tsunami. It provides a loving home environment and education for children up to age 14. There are currently 73 children in the Home and they are looked after by staff, some of whom were widowed in the Tsunami. The urgent work is needed to provide a piped drinking water supply, construct a Dining Hall and Kitchen, construct further bathroom & toilet failities, provide a medical facility and fence the playground area. In addition money is needed for playground and classroom equipment. If the Home is forced to close, the children will have to be housed in other orphanages many miles away from any remaining relatives and friends - this would be another damaging blow to children already traumatised by natural disaster.
