Situation
Young Males, particularly young black and British Asian Males traditionally do not attend the theatre. Our ambition is to make a relevant and accessible piece to inspire a whole new generation. How can we excite this generation to turn off their computers and embrace the Arts? This project has grown from our research conversations with local young people, especially in the Muslim community, who expressed a desire to see work that is relevant to them and doesn’t follow the ‘typical Muslim themes'
Solution
The show will be developed through community participation and working with a young British Asian choreographer. Through this we will ensure that the work will be accessible and reflects what this young audience want to see. 13% of our audience at our last production, Britain’s got Bhangra had never set foot in a theatre before and we want to make sure they continue to come back. By being involved in the project from the beginning they will commit to the experience.
