The endangered snow leopard is only found in the high mountains of central Asia, where it has lived unthreatened for thousands of years. But now the future of these stunning creatures hangs in the balance due to poaching and human development. We urgently need your support.

    Situation

Snow leopard numbers are in decline. Tragically in Nepal, we believe there could now be as few as 300 snow leopards fighting for their survival. Not only are they being hunted for their precious fur and bones which are used in fashion and traditional medicines; their wild prey is also in decline, competing for grazing land with growing number of livestock. Snow leopards are forced to prey on this livestock and are being killed by farmers who are desperate to protect their livelihoods.

    Solution

We are creating connecting areas across the Eastern Himalayas that are big enough to enable animals like the snow leopard to feed, breed and roam freely, together with addressing the illegal trade in wildlife parts. We are also working with local people to help them live alongside wild species, and to give them advice on protecting their natural resources and improving their daily lives.
