At The Place2Be we recognise that without the commitment and support of our Volunteer Counsellors and School Project Managers we could not deliver our much needed service to the children in the schools in which we work. The Training Department aims to support this commitment by offering relevant training to all volunteers and clinical staff to help them further develop their therapeutic skills for supporting children.

    Situation

The Place2Be specialises in training individuals to work therapeutically with primary school aged children. Our courses are highly experiential, include relevant theory and research and give participants the opportunity to build on their existing skills whilst also enhancing their ability to support children's emotional wellbeing. Training builds the skills of the children’s workforce by focusing on specific modules to build our Volunteer Counsellors and School Project Managers’ expertise in working with vulnerable and at-risk children. Supporting the training of our Volunteer Counsellors and School Project Managers enables The Place2Be to make a lasting difference to children’s lives, to their families and to society as a whole. We have developed comprehensive induction programmes for Volunteer Counsellors and School Project Managers as well as Continuing Professional Development courses for existing members of staff. These courses have been developed in consultation with our Clinical Advisor to ensure that appropriate and high quality interventions are being provided in geographically, demographically different places. This investment in our workforce skills training and development is vital for the maintenance of our high standards and to support the growth and development of The Place2Be as we extend the reach of our services to 80,000 children in 190 schools in 19 hubs across the UK by 2010.
