    Situation

UK Outreach Although LA is known for our work abroad the vast majority of our programmes benefit the UK. This Movie will highlight the work of our unique Volunteer Visitors Network and HelpBureau. Our Outreach Program co-ordinates our prominent Volunteer Visitors Network. This Network consists of a group of our members who, using their knowledge and experience as amputees, support and encourage people awaiting amputation or amputees experiencing difficulties since their operation. This service played a key role in assisting victims who sustained limb-loss during the 7/7 London terrorist attacks. This is the only programme which matches amputees with similar limb loss under similar circumstances. For example, we would match a person who had a below knee leg amputation due to a car accident with a Volunteer who has had a leg amputation due to a sudden trauma. The HelpBureau is a multi-channel information service for people with limb loss and their carers. Our HelpBureau Officer will listen, offer support and where possible give guidance on how a person with limb loss can achieve independence. The HelpBureau is both a telephone HelpLine and a Drop-in advice centre. The Movie would feature Ali Abbas, quadruple amputee Raymond Edwards, double leg amputee Diana Morgan, and some of our more famous members and MP’s discussing what LA does and how they have gained an insight into life with limb loss.
