The campaign is split into two phases starting in January 2010 with “Get Found”. This scheme is aimed at children aged 9 to 14 (KS2 and 3) providing them with easy to remember instructions and information on what to do if they get lost. This will involve approximately 74000 Cambridgeshire school children across over 370 schools.

    Situation

It is becoming increasingly important that children are provided with this information at a time when they are encouraged by the government and the media to adopt healthy outdoor lifestyles. Teachers will receive an information pack containing lesson plans and assembly themes including how to talk to children about enjoying the outdoors and being safe. These have been designed with the help of experienced teachers and which reduces the planning time usually needed to run a new classroom session with children. Working through the activities children can learn what to do if they find themselves separated from their parent/carers. No other service exists to provide the children of Cambridgeshire with this potentially life saving information and in such an easy to remember format. The project is planned to begin in the first term of the New Year with the printing and dispatch to schools of the new leaflets (aged 8 -11 and 12-14) and Teachers Packs developed with the assistance of school children from Tilney St Lawrence Primary School and Young Countrysiders Groups. Following this both Cambridgeshire Constabulary Community Officers and members of CamSAR will be visiting schools to talk about “Get Found” and other related safety issues such as “Stranger Danger”. CamSAR aims for all of Cambridgeshire’s 74,000 key stage 2 and 3 children to have participated in the scheme by summer 2010.
