    Situation

Beginning with Blobs and Nurturing Change is a theatre production and workshop, for children aged 4-8. Visual performance using live animation with clay follows the evolutionary paths of 3 imaginary creatures. All begin identically yet evolve differently in order to survive and adapt to the surroundings and each other. Beginning with Blobs focuses on Darwin’s theory that beings change over time, and different species share common ancestors, highlighting that although we are now all different, we all began the same. The performance is accompanied by Nurturing Change, a workshop that contextualises the show and supported by a teachers resource pack. Beginning with Blobs aims to: • Use artistic activities to inspire and engage children in understanding evolution • Creatively combine theatre and science practice for school aged and family audiences broadening their understanding and experiences of both • Create a new piece of touring theatre that explores evolutionary science in a alternative way for diverse child and family audiences • Engage schools in exploring alternative teaching methods to encourage children’s interest in science • Use science and art to highlight and celebrate diversity; illustrating that, diverse groups, can live and flourish in harmony. This overarching theme ensures the wider reaching and socially beneficial effects of the production. The total cost of creating Beginning with Blobs and Nurturing Change is £71,628. We will earn a proportion of income from theatres that book the production and schools that book workshops. Towards the costs of setting up the project, further subsidy is being sought from a number of funders to invest with support including Arts Council England’s National Touring Programme, Allen and Overy and The Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation. Any additional funds contirbution will support the cost of Artistic output key in the realisation and delivery of this project.
