The new education programme will be launched this year, aimed specifically at primary school children across Scotland and is provided free to schools. The Society believes that cruelty to animals can be greatly reduced by teaching children to respect and care for animals.

    Situation

Our Prevention through Education programme links directly to the Scottish Government’s Curriculum for Excellence, most notably by teaching children to be responsible citizens. This will involve Scottish SPCA Inspectors, Ambulance Drivers and Education Officers visiting schools across Scotland offering highly interactive presentations. Resource packs will also be left with teachers and will include follow-up activities and projects. We are seeking funding to produce packs of Top Trumps Cards for use during our free school visits. The Top trumps Cards will allow children of all ages and abilities to learn about animal welfare issues and will also be available to schools after our free visit. The cost to produce these cards including the design and printing costs is £6,000 which will allow us to print 2,000 sets of the cards.
