Situation
Our Vision Our vision is to create a newly restored and enhanced Observatory, with up to date facilities, providing visitors to Keele with an opportunity to experience practical examples of both physical and earth sciences and astronomy, using equipment from the 19th century to the present day. The refurbishment and re-equipping of the facilities will provide an exciting, safe and attractive environment in which the general public, organised groups, schools and educators can enjoy a “hands on” experience into the research activities in the physical sciences; Astronomy, Earth Sciences and the Environment. Phase I; To date we have raised or committed £300,000 which will allow the restoration of the Observatory to be completed by October 2009 Phase II of this exciting project will provide additional purpose built space for demonstration and simulations of sustainable energy (e.g. solar PV and thermal power, wind power, geothermal energy, ground source heat pumps. Greenhouse gas (CO2 and methane monitors) and air quality monitoring will display current conditions and monitor achievement against Kyoto targets.
