On Friday evenings we run a community children's and yourth club on the Killisick Estate in Arnold, Nottingham. These community project have benefitted 150 children and young people over the past year. Many children attending the clubs are from challenging circumstances and the clubs support children whatever their social, cultural or religious background. The clubs are FREE of charge to all children attending which further increases their accessibility to children with most need.

    Situation

Our work is focused on children from the Killisick area of Arnold, the Killisick Ward is shown to be in the top 20% of deprived wards nationally, as shown by its Indices of Multiple Depravation (IMD) Score. Through our experience of working in this area we are aware of the relative poverty and vulnerability of many of these children. In addition, our clubs focus on inclusion of children coping with difficult home lives and social exclusion. The difference our clubs make in the life of the children are: 1) Through play and learning, in a safe secure environment, disadvantaged children achieve social integration and develop life skills 2) Strong existing links with local schools and community groups will continue to ensure that unmet social needs are bridged and extra provision is targeted at the most vulnerable children. 3) Through play, including games, role play and multimedia presentation anti-social behaviour will be reduced as positive messages are integrated into the programme. 4) Positive role models for children are provided as we engage good levels of youth volunteer involvement. We also have ten adult volunteers committed to supporting the clubs. The annual cost to run the clubs is £10,802. This is split down into youth and children's worker costs (£8,224), room hire (£1,278), food - healthy light tea for children (£500), games and craft eqipment (£300) and volunteer travel expenses (£500).
